- Bio
I was born, and spent the first dozen years of my life, in Canada, and moved to South Carolina in January of 1997.
I went to Dubose and Gregg Middle Schools in Summerville, South Carolina, and then to Summerville High School, home of the winningest coach in football history and the multiple state championship marching band, which I participated in all four years of high school. I graduated in 2003.
After high school I attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. I received academic and music scholarships, and played in the wind ensemble, jazz band, jazz combo, and pep band, as well as being involved with the college radio station (Station Manager and Program Director), Delta Omicron music honor fraternity (First Vice President), Student Government Association, Celtic Cross (a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) leadership program), Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Fraternity, Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Fraternity, and the Presbyterian Student Association (Treasurer). I also worked in the college computer labs, helping students with computer problems, and broadcasted PC football and basketball games on the college radio station in a partnership with a local AM station. I graduated cum laude in May 2007 with a BA in history, with minors in music and physics.
After graduation, I got the opportunity to return to my alma mater for an internship in the library's Media Services lab for the following school year.
I applied to the master's journalism program at American University, and graduated in August of 2009. While there I was a teaching assistant for David Johnson. I completed an internship at the Web site for the Newseum in the summer of 2009, and stayed on for several months after as a consultant. I am currently an Associate Producer at National Geographic Digital Media for the Environment, Science, Green Guide, and News sites.
I enjoy sailing, hiking, camping, traveling, making music, Web comics, learning programming languages, and watching TV. It is my life goal to visit each continent (including and especially Antarctica) at least once, and I have been to Haiti, England, Scotland, and France. I consider myself an amateur photographer and Web developer (mostly within Drupal, which powers this site).
I live with my fiancee Jessica and our two cats Hallie and Cody in Rockville, Maryland.
